How to Write a Good Press Release

by | Jun 30, 2020 | Insights

Press releases have long been an effective way to gain media attention on a number of business trends, events and noteworthy stories.

With press and media releases swarming into to news sources daily, it is important to submit something that outshines the others and makes it into the news. So how exactly do you write a good press release? Here are 4 tips to help you get started.

Write a great headline to catch attention.

With the amount of informations flying across journalist’s desks on a given day, most will absolutely judge a book by its cover. You really only have one chance to get them to read your submission, and that’s by creating interest with a good headline. It must engaging and accurate, to paint a clear description of what they can look forward to in the body of the text.

Order your information by level of importance.

Once you’ve drawn a reader in through a good headline, the challenge is to get a full read of the article. Just know that most readers won’t make it all the way through because they simply don’t have time. Because of this, it is vital to put all your important points or information in the first couple of paragraphs.

Use quotes whenever possible.

Quotations aren’t meant to provide new information but rather support existing claims in your release. They offer insider or expert opinion and provide multiple layers for captivation.

Provide a way to find out more information.

A press release should really be no more than a single page. That being said, it’s sometimes difficult to express all ideas or information in one page. A great tip is to provide a way for the reader to learn more if they so desire. This can be in the form of a website, phone number for discussion or an email address to communicate with.

There are many more ways that you can learn to write a great press release but these 4 tips will more than get you started. If you are still unsure of the approach to take, it’s a good idea to get an expert on your side to manage this for you.
